1.5V to 5V Converter

Last Updated on March 16, 2024

Battery powered electronic circuit design always have one problem that is Requirement of different voltage and current levels. Some input devices, sensors, or output actuators may require higher voltage than battery power source. Here we made a prototype 1.5V to 5V Converter circuit using LM2621 to meet the above specifications & Requirements.

Several hand held portable and small battery powered electronic systems Requires DC-DC boost converter but the problem is these converters drains battery so fast and some wont give proper output current levels.

The following 1.5V to 5V Converter circuit will give output current upto 500mA and its typical operating current is 80µA.

Construction & Working

IC LM2621

The LM2621 from texas instruments is a high efficiency, step-up DC-DC switching regulator for battery-powered and low input voltage systems. It accepts 1.2V to 14V and converts into regulated output voltage. Output voltage can be adjusted between 1.24V to 14V. It can operate in 2MHz switching frequency and can deliver upto 1A load current. IC LM2621 available in 8-pin VSSOP package.

Here this 1.5V to 5V converter circuit designed to work with 1.5V AA or AAA battery or it can boost any 1.5V power source input to 5 volt / 500 mA output. This circuit requires only few easily available components. Use external battery holder to use this circuit with AA or AAA battery.
