1 IC LED Flashing Circuit Using 555 Timer

Last Updated on March 16, 2024

How to Make Continuous LED Flashing Circuit? To Answer this Common and Frequently asked question we designed 1 IC LED Flashing Circuit Using 555 Timer. The IC 555 timer is an Integrated Circuit or Electronic Chip used in variety of Pulse, Timer, Delay Oscillation circuits and applications. This Famous and most used IC Invented by Hans Camenzind in 1971.

Lets come to the blinking circuit design. Here Our purpose is to make an LED blink automatically with some time delay intervals, that is making LED ON and OFF with some time delay. This timer IC 555 contains all the circuitry we need to do the same.

Construction & Working

IC 555 timer

This IC 555 comes in dual inline 8 Pin package. Here we going to configure this IC in Astable Multivibrator mode. Here the Capacitor C1 acts as a timing capacitor and R1, R2 acts as Timing Resistors. By calculating these value we can get the ON/OFF durations of LED.

T = t1 +t2

t1 = 0.693(R1+R2).C1

t2 = 0.693*R2*C1

By using this circuit components we will get Freq = 1.54Hz and Duty cycle = 50.05%.

So the LED will ON for 0.649 Sec and OFF for 0.649 Sec. This will make LED Flashing fast. If you want different blinking timing then change the Resistance or Capacitance value depends on your need.

  1. We are hobbiest, after spending electronic employment and now retired I enjoy spending time in that field. Also a ham radio operator.Thanks

  2. Hi, What in this circuit is needed to be changed to lengthen or shorten the interval between flashes of the LED. I am trying to create a strobe on a 1/8 scale train engine. Much like the roof mount flashers on the school busses. So what I am after is a short flash every few seconds. I might want to vary the interval until the desired look is obtained.
