Step Up Voltage Regulator

Simple Switching Step Up Voltage Regulator Circuit designed by using IC LM2577 from Texas Instruments. This circuit boost Input 5 Volt DC to Output 12 Volt DC and also we can adjust the output voltage by changing the value of feedback Resistors R2, R3.

Vout = 1.23V (1+R2/R3)

This Vout calculation terms written based on the following Schematic.




IC LM2577 is monolithic Integrated Circuit that provide all of the power and control functions for step up, fly back and forward converting switching Regulation. IC LM1577 and LM2577 are available in three different output Voltage versions 12V, 15V and adjustable. These ICs are available in different packages also.

Construction & Working

This Simple Step Up Voltage Regulator Circuit using LM2577 is made with few easily available Components. Input Supply +5 V DC is applied to the Vin pin through filter capacitor, Vin Pin and Switch pin are connected between 100µH Inductor. Schottky barrier diode 1N5821 protects from Reverse supply flow. R2 and R3 Resistors are acts as a feed back elements. Capacitor C3 performs filter operation at output. Components R1 and C2 connected for reference Voltage at COMP pin.

IC LM 2577 takes wide input voltage Range from 3.5V to 40V, It has 52KHz internal Oscillator. Soft start function Reduces in rush current during start up. It has current limit, under voltage lockout, and thermal shutdown features.
