Voltage Regulator Circuit 5V to 3.3V

Last Updated on March 16, 2024

Some Sensitive Electronic Components, Sensors or Microcontrollers Requires 3.3V DC supply as power source. When we apply 5V or 12V to all other components. Here is a simple voltage Regulator circuit 5V to 3.3V designed by using tiny IC AMS1117. IC AMS1117 comes with lot of ranges hence choose exact IC. By using this voltage regulator circuit we can convert 5V to 3.3V with out occupying lot space in circuit design.

AMS1117 IC is series of adjustable and fixed voltage regulators, these IC can provide 800mA output current. This IC comes in SOT-223 and To-252 Packages. This IC can be used in high efficiency linear Regulator circuit, Battery charger circuit and battery powered instruments.

Construction & Working

This IC has only three terminals, input DC supply applied directly to the Vi Pin and output 3.3V taken directly from Vo Pin, for both input and output voltages there is a common GND pin.

Here LED D1 indicates the presence of input power supply. Capacitors C1 and C2 are performs filter operation, Use tantalum capacitors for C1 and C2.
